Details:
Step back into East London’s golden age of industry and explore the architectural treasures of the “Smokestack District.” From the advent of London East to the mid-20th century, this stretch of Dundas Street would have been bustling with workers at Kellogg’s cereal factory, the Empire Brass Manufacturing Company, and McCormick’s Biscuit Factory that contributed to the working class neighbourhood of Old East Village. Today, many buildings are part of exciting adaptive reuse initiatives which have revitalized their industrial charm. We’ll explore the development of Dundas Street, the architecture of the Smokestack District, and how cultural heritage conservation is rapidly transforming this up-and-coming area.
